Proper eye care is important for people of all ages and regular eye exams are encouraged for everyone, but especially for those already using glasses or contact lenses. At Bowersox Vision Center, not only are we your resource for annual eye exams, we provide a wide variety of other services as well. We invite you to read more about our services below, or call our office with any questions.

Vision Therapy:

For the treatment of amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turn), and vision reading disorders. It includes weekly therapy sessions tailored specifically for each patient. Therapy is designed to improve eye teaming, tracking, reading speed, handwriting, visual memory, comprehension, and much more. See our “Vision Therapy” tab for further information.

Vision Rehabilitation:

All of our doctors are specifically trained in Vision-Rehab to serve patients that have suffered either an acquired or traumatic brain injury. In some cases, specific lenses (often including prism) are prescribed and worn to reduce many of the vision symptoms that remain after the injury. Sometimes vision therapy is also included in the rehabilitation process. See our “Vision Rehab” tab for further information.

Sports Vision:

Visual training that involves high-level eye tracking, depth perception, hand-eye coordination, etc. We will design a sports therapy plan based on your sport, position, and skill level after performing baseline testing.

Eye Exams:

Annual eye exams are important for everyone, as they are the only way to monitor eye health and check for problems/diseases. Early detection of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy allow for the widest range of treatment options and best chance of slowing or reversing any symptoms

Prior to your examination with the doctor, you will be with one of our technicians. He/she will do some preliminary testing and go over your medical, ocular, and family history. You will also have the opportunity to discuss any problems you may be having with your eyes, vision, current contacts, etc.

The doctor will come in next and provide a thorough eye exam, including everything from checking your eye muscle movements, to updating your glasses/contact lens prescription, to checking the health of the inside and outside of your eyes using magnification and light.

We check for all eye diseases and rule out any abnormalities such as: glaucoma, cataracts, retinal disorders, diabetic retinopathy, cancer of the eye, corneal dystrophies, eye muscle movement problems, retinal detachments, optic nerve disorders, etc.

As a bonus, our office does not use the “puff of air” test, and we have a retinal camera available so you’ll have the opportunity to see a picture of the inside of your eyes.

Contact us today if you’d like to schedule a complete eye exam!

Contact Lens Exams:

A contact lens fit and evaluation can be seamlessly included in an annual eye exam, so when you call to schedule your annual exam, let them know you’d like a contact lens exam at the same time.

Each brand of contact lens is different and is selected for specific reasons – unique to you. We pride ourselves in being up to date with contact lens technology (including multifocal contacts!) and will fit you in lenses that are safe, comfortable, and clear.

We have over 18 different types of contact lenses in a large range of prescriptions in stock at each of our offices, so oftentimes; you will leave your contact lens exam with a brand new trial pair(s).

Optical Services

Our highly trained and experienced optical staff is more than qualified to help you pick out your next pair of glasses.

Eyeglass Frames:

glasses can say a lot about your personality, style, and fashion; and yet they also must serve a purpose and be durable. Our gallery staff is highly trained and has a great deal of experience helping patients find the best frames for them – taking into account budget, medical needs, and lifestyle. We are constantly updating our gallery to provide unique options for you and your family.

Our opticians will walk you through all the decisions involved with a new pair of glasses – everything from non-glare coating, Transitions (turn into sunglasses outside), different types of plastic that change the thickness of the lenses, bifocals versus Progressive lenses, and more.

We offer over 50 different brands of frames, including (but definitely not limited to): Ray Ban, Coach, Kate Spade, Ovvo, Nine West, Michael Kors, Scott Harris, Silhouette, State, Lily Pulitzer, Shaq, Tommy Hilfiger, Longchamp, Wiley X, Fysh, Ted Baker, Invu, and more!

We have frames designed for all face shapes and sizes.

We have a large children’s selection, including db4k, Ovvo for kids, MiraFlex, and more.

Sunglasses:

All sunglasses are not created equal! All sunglasses we sell are certified to block harmful ultraviolet rays. Our gallery staff will be more than happy to show you our large selection of sunglasses (or we can even make sunglasses out of any of our dress frames!). You do not need to have a glasses prescription (or even an exam with us) to come check them out. We have both polarized and non-polarized sunglasses in stock.

Safety Glasses:

Safety glasses have very specific requirements to ensure they will keep your eyes protected at work. You can rely on our expert opticians to help you select your safety glasses, whether you require a glasses prescription or not (and yes! We can make safety glasses with a bifocal). We provide safety glasses for several local businesses.

Dry Eye

Dry eye disease is extremely common and all of our doctors are up to date with current treatment strategies. We can evaluate for this at your annual exam, or if it is especially irritating, at any other time, just call for an appointment.

Symptoms of dry eyes can vary depending on the severity but can include:

● Itchy eyes
● Burning, staining, dry eyes
● Watery eyes
● Blurred vision that comes and goes
● Painful eyes when blinking
● Recurrent styes

Our doctors have done a lot of research and have chosen Nordic Naturals supplements to be able to provide to our patients. These supplements include an Omega3 Fish Oil, which has been proven to help dry eye symptoms. To save you a trip, you can actually order these through us on our online portal here to save you a trip: https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/bvc

Our latest advanced dry eye treatment is a device called the iLux. This device is used when the dryness is secondary to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). It uses thermal pulsation to directly treat the blocked meibomian glands in the eyelids. If these meibomian glands are clogged or are inefficiently working, your natural tears will evaporate right off the surface of your eyes! This treatment takes only about 10 minutes and studies have shown a 300% increase in the oil glands function at 4 weeks post-treatment. If you’re interested in learning more, or to find out if you’re a candidate – contact our office.
